![]() Daniela’s is more of a snapshot and doesn’t usually photograph for artistic purposes. Kt takes pictures as art and photography, and aspires to do something artistic with purpose, and her pictures aren’t only snapshots. In this post, I’m going to critique 3 photos, two from my friend Katie, or as I always call her, kt, and one from my friend Daniela. I will definitely have to experiment with dodging and burning more even if we do not in class because it is very interesting and helps make the photo even better. In obvious contrast dodging deals with decreasing exposure while burning deals with increasing exposure. In comparing and contrasting, dodging a photo definitely intensifies the photo in the lightness, and the burning similarly intensifies a photo, only with the darkness in the photo. Also, I never even knew the process of the two was possible. anyways, I love the fact that you can dodge and burn photos. It is definitely a process, I’m very new and inexperienced at this process, so if i were to post the before/after of the image I dodged and burned I guess you would say haha it would not be as great as I hoped. ![]() This string of images is the perfect representation of dodge and burn and how the technique is used. In a darkroom print from a film negative, dodging decreases the exposure for areas of the print that the photographer wishes to be lighter, while burning increases the exposure to areas of the print that should be darker. The definitions of Dodge and Burn in photography/Photoshop are techniques used during the printing process to manipulate the exposure of a selected area on a photographic print, deviating from the rest of the image’s exposure. then again lots of test strips and timing until you get it perfect. You can play around with more than one picture and choose your favorite over time. But in the long run you will find the perfect time setting and a beautiful contact sheet! From this contact sheet you will figure out which photo you want to use to enlarge. Wash cups, funnels, thermometers, tanks and reelsĪlthough this is a long process, once you learn it, it doesn’t take very long! I’m not sure if I am supposed to give instructions on how to make a contact sheet and enlarge a photo, so I’ll give a short explanation… For making a contact sheet, this will take a lot of time to figure out what times to use to get to make a great looking contact sheet. Process-first 3 mins agitate continuously The process of actually developing the film takes around 15-25 minutes and you used chemicals such as Hypo clear, D16, Fixer, Photoflo, Stop Bath, and water! Here is the process…Īgitate first 30 seconds 10 seconds every 30 seconds thereafter You do this all in a bag that is sealed from light so that you don’t expose the film. The black tub is where u put the reels into, and the reels are where you put the film onto. The picture shows some of the things I use to develop film. When it stops clicking and you’re sure the film is all rolled, you can now remove it from the camera without exposing the film. Now in this, im not going to put any “fancy words” that are all technical… I’m just going to say it how i know it.įirst take out the film from your camera properly by pushing up the button on the bottom and twisting the knob to wind up the film. ![]() But once you learn it, and do it multiple times its really not all that hard. Film seems like a complicated process, and it is.
